Samsung's rugged Galaxy Tab Active 5 has cleared a key hurdle on its way to launch, successfully finishing end product Bluetooth testing and certification in December 27. The tablet passed testing for Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, clearing the Bluetooth Qualification Process.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 is expected to launch in several variants to serve different connectivity needs.

The lineup will include total 5 different versions:  SM-X300 with WiFi, SM-X306B, SM-X306N, SM-X308B and SM-X308U with 5G support.

With models featuring both WiFi and 5G, and multiple 5G options, Samsung looks to be aiming the rugged Galaxy Tab Active 5 at a wide range of business, enterprise and outdoor use cases.

The different versions will give potential customers flexibility in choosing the connectivity best suited for their needs.

8-inch display is surrounded by thick protective bezels and comes with Gorilla Glass 5 for enhanced durability. Physical navigation buttons sit below the screen for gloved use. A textured back houses a 13MP camera and LED light.

Being a rugged device, the Tab Active 5 boasts IP68 water/dust resistance and is MIL-STD-810H certified to withstand drops of up to 1.2 meters with its case. It also offers Knox security.

Under the hood, an Exynos 1380 chipset and up to 6GB RAM power the tablet. Storage goes up to 128GB and is expandable.

A sizable 5050mAh removable battery fuels the device which surprisingly runs Android 12.

Connectivity is robust with 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and GPS. It also packs a speaker with Dolby Atmos, a stylus with IP68 rating, facial recognition or fingerprint scanning, and a programmable key for quick app access.

Samsung has not formally announced the Galaxy Tab Active 5 yet. But with certifications underway and renders leaked, the rugged tablet could launch in early 2024.
