One marquee feature is called “Tap to Cast” This allows Pixel phone owners to seamlessly transfer music playback to a docked Pixel Tablet. Users simply bring their compatible Pixel phone near the tablet. Then, audio playback switches devices. This works with Spotify and YouTube Music.
Google says Tap to Cast relies on “a range of technologies”. This includes ultra-wideband (UWB), Bluetooth Low Energy, and Wi-Fi. UWB equips the Pixel 6 Pro and newer Pixel phones. It helps pinpoint the tablet's location. Consequently, your phone swiftly hands off playback duties.
The new trick mirrors Apple's “Handoff” feature. Handoff lets iPhone owners transfer music to HomePod speakers. Now, Pixel owners gain a similar perk. Tap to Cast rolls out later this year. It may expand to Nest smart displays eventually.
Beyond new Pixel Tablet features, Google shared Chromecast upgrades. First, Chromecast built-in expands to new LG TVs. This includes 2024 LG smart TVs and select models for hotels and hospitals. As a result, you can cast content from apps directly to more big screens.
Additionally, Google partnered with TikTok on casting abilities. The viral video app now supports casting to Chromecast devices. You can fling funny pet clips from your phone to the living room TV. Live stream casting arrives soon too.
Finally, Google is optimizing Fast Pair for televisions. Fast Pair enables quick Bluetooth pairing by detecting nearby devices. In February, it will work with Chromecast with Google TV. More Google TVs gain Fast Pair support later in 2024. Ultimately, you can sync wireless headphones to your TV with a single tap.
The rollout demonstrates Google's commitment to the Pixel Tablet before its release. Google wants seamless connectivity between the tablet and other devices. Look for more cross-device features as the Pixel Tablet launch nears. With smartphone-like capabilities and deep Google integration, the tablet aims to simplify your digital life.
