Amazon Knight With Alexa In Development
The latest rumor surrounding a new Amazon tablet is now for a Alexa informed Amazon Knight tablet with voice controls and smart home features.
The current project codenamed Amazon Knight at Amazon's R&D facility Lab126, sounds like a natural evolution of the Amazon Echo, Amazon Tap cylinders, or the tiny Amazon Echo Dot, all of which features Alexa as a personal assistant, but lack an interactive display that a tablet or tablet-like device can offer.
(UPDATED: New Amazon Fire HD 8 launched in September)
According to WSJ.com, Amazon Knight is designed to summon web pages, videos, or images also when the owner of the device is unable to touch the screen.
So this could imply both voice commands as well as gesture commands.
Currently, the Amazon Echo is the third best selling Amazon device in the US, after the Fire TV Stick in first place, and the $49 Fire Tablet in second place.
As for leaks concerning other possible tablets from Amazon this year, only a purported new 8-inch Fire tablet codenamed Amazon KFGIWI have leaked so far, through a benchmark test in April.
