2TB – 8TB Portable SSD Samsung T5 EVO Revealed With 2m Drop Rating

Samsung revealed it's latest portable SSD drives today with the new Samsung T5 EVO, which is launching with options of 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB storage capacities. The release date is November 21, when it's launching from $189: https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Portable-External-MU-PH4T0S

So it is a little pricey, but Samsung underlines that the new T5 EVO is optimized for large file transfers at maximum speed, so I can appreciate that. Although Samsung didn't specify what the definition of large file is in this user scenario.

But in terms of performance, at least Samsung's newest portable SSD handles sequential read and write speeds at up to 460 MB/sec transferred through the USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port.

Software included are Samsung Magician Software and Samsung Portable SSD 1.0, while it's guaranteed compatible with Windows, MacOS, and Android, featuring 256-bit AES hardware encryption.

Reliability is a big part of the portable SSD's and Samsung is confident enough to give it a class leading drop rating approval of 2m, in which it can sustain 1.500G for 0.5ms.

It only weighs 102 grams, and is smaller than the smallest smartphones, so it should be practical enough to be used everyday with anything from smartphones, to tablets, to laptops, or cameras.
