I found the Surface Pro 4 still awkward for lap use and a bit clumsy for portability. It also remains expensive, especially configured as a full computer replacement. Ultimately, the Surface Pro 4 refines the concept of a tablet-laptop hybrid but has the same compromises. - The Verge |
User Reviews 2 |
I used the Surface Pro 4 as my daily computer for 13 days to fully test it out. I found the overall design looks very premium with its magnesium body, although quite familiar to the Surface Pro 3. At just 1.73 lbs, it offers impressive portability and versatility as both a tablet and full Windows 10 laptop. - Jon Rettinger |
User Reviews 3 |
I found the Surface Pro 4 looks nearly identical to the previous Surface Pro 3 model, with a barely noticeable increase in screen size to 12.3" and reduced side bezels. - Engadget |

Microsoft has released an updated version of its popular Surface Pro tablet, the Surface Pro 4.
This new model refines the concept of a tablet-laptop hybrid device, aiming to perfect Microsoft's vision for the future of mobile computing.
The Surface Pro 4 Looks Premium But Familiar
The overall design of the new Surface Pro 4 looks nearly identical to the previous Surface Pro 3, with its signature magnesium body and built-in kickstand.
Microsoft slightly increased the screen size to 12.3 inches and reduced the side bezels to fit into a barely noticeable thinner and lighter body at just 1.69 to 1.73 lbs.
So while not a major redesign, the Surface Pro 4 retains the premium high-end look and feel of its predecessor.
Major Improvements to Keyboard, Pen, and Screen
While the exterior stays largely the same, Microsoft engineers focused improvements under the hood.
The newly redesigned Type Cover keyboard finally provides a responsive typing experience similar to a laptop, with better key travel and a larger glass trackpad.
The Surface Pen also got an upgrade, now featuring 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity for a pen-to-paper feel when drawing or writing by hand.
But the biggest upgrade comes in the stunning 12.3” PixelSense touchscreen display, with 267 pixels per inch and vibrant colors.
Compared to the already good Surface Pro 3 panel, the screen looks tremendously better and closer to a top-end 4K TV.
Enhanced Performance and Battery Life
The Surface Pro 4 offers consumers a choice of 6th generation Intel Core m3, i5 or i7 processors, with boosted options for memory and storage.
While not meant for intensive gaming or graphics work, performance is snappy for everyday office and productivity tasks.
Battery life is rated to up to 9 hours of video playback.
A Tablet and Laptop Replacement
Thanks to its lightweight body and full Windows 10 operating system, the Surface Pro 4 makes an excellent portable productivity machine for work, the new enhancements successfully fixing most of the shortcomings in the prior model.
It can comfortably replace both a tablet for web browsing and media consumption, and a laptop for typing emails or writing documents.
For believers in Microsoft’s hybrid concept, this new model perfects the vision and likely makes the best case yet for ditching your laptop.
