Lenovo recently released the Lenovo Tab 7 Essential, a budget Android tablet priced. The tablet aims to provide basic functionality at an affordable cost, but does it deliver on performance?

The Tab 7 Essential has a few highlights for its low price point. It offers a decent 7-inch IPS display with a resolution that looks relatively sharp.

The nearly stock Android 7.0 software provides a smooth experience. Battery life also impresses, lasting around 20 hours during testing.

Additionally, Lenovo managed to fit a respectable build quality into the budget tablet.

Although made of plastic, it feels solidly put together for the price.

However, the clear Achilles heel of the Tab 7 Essential is disappointing performance.

The tablet contains just 1GB RAM and uses a low-end MediaTek quad-core processor.

This hardware combination results in frequent lagging and sluggishness during everyday use.

Even simple apps struggle at times. Multitasking brings significant slowdowns as the tablet tries to keep up.

Benchmark scores marginally beat Amazon’s Fire 7 tablet, yet real-world usage feels slower due to the poor optimization.

Mediocre cameras, small battery capacity, and lack of extra features round out additional downsides. But the glaring lack of performance overshadows any other highlights.

The Lenovo Tab 7 Essential best suits users wanting a starter tablet strictly for basic needs like web access and video streaming.

Students on tight budgets may also find it useful for mostly reading and media playback.

But for anyone expecting respectable performance for multitasking or productivity, this tablet will surely disappoint.

The sluggish speeds simply make it frustrating to use beyond light web browsing and app usage.
