Amazon recently launched an updated version of its low-cost Fire HD 10 tablet. The 2023 model starts at just $140, making it one of the most affordable 10-inch tablets around.

Display and Design

The Fire HD 10 sports a 10.1-inch screen with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. It displays sharp and vibrant colors thanks to its LCD panel.

The screen also works with digital pens, allowing you to write or draw.

Performance and Hardware

Powering the tablet is a MediaTek processor with 8 cores. It delivers reasonably smooth performance for casual games and video streaming. Though more demanding 3D titles struggle a bit.

The tablet packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. You can add up to 1TB more storage through the microSD card slot.

Software and Audio

The new Fire tablet feels a bit cheap due to its plastic body. But Amazon says it survives drops. It weighs just 0.9 pounds, making it easy to carry around the house. Battery life is strong at over 10 hours of use per charge.

For software, the Fire HD 10 uses Amazon's Fire OS instead of plain Android. It focuses on Amazon's apps and services over Google's. But you can add the Google Play Store yourself later.

Cameras and Connectivity

The tablet features dual speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning. Audio quality is quite decent for the price. There is also a standard 3.5mm headphone jack present.

Around back sits a 5MP camera, while the front has a 5MP sensor too for video calls. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3 LE.

Price and Conclusion

At $140, the Fire HD 10 brings Alexa smart features, long battery life, and solid media abilities. Casual gamers should also find smooth gameplay.

The plastic construction feels cheap, and intense 3D games struggle. But overall it's an affordable big-screen tablet good for web use and Prime video streaming.
