Alcatel recently released the Pop 7 LTE, a budget 7-inch Android tablet

Offering decent specs like a quad-core processor and the latest Marshmallow software, it aims to deliver good value to consumers wanting an affordable media device.

After spending some hands-on time with the Alcatel pop 7 LTE, here is an overview of its capabilities and limitations as an entry-level tablet option.

At first glance, the plastic build feels solid and should withstand typical wear and tear.

While thicker than premium tablets, the pop 7 still weighs under 11 ounces for easy portability.

Actual usage reveals snappy response times when surfing the web, streaming video, or switching between apps.

The quad-core chipset and 1GB RAM easily handle casual demands despite the price tag.

Battery life also impresses, lasting around 8 hours of continuous web use on a single charge.

On the downside, the low 600×1024 resolution display suffers from poor viewing angles and lacks sharpness compared to HD screens.

The pop 7 works acceptably for quick emails or social media but strains the eyes during prolonged reading sessions.

Gamers may also find fast-paced action hampered by slower refresh rates.

While acceptable for the cost, the display underwhelms compared to the smooth software and speedy performance.

With only 8GB internal storage, Alcatel expects users to supply their own microSD card for music, photos, videos and more substantial apps.

The card slot supports inexpensive expansion up to 32GB. Camera quality predictably falls short of top tablets, with grainy results from the basic 5MP rear and 2MP front sensors.

Still, buyers mainly interested in entertainment rather than photography should find them sufficient for casual use.

In the end, exceptional battery runtimes and competent processing power make the Alcatel pop 7 LTE a viable bargain buy for first-time tablet shoppers.

Those desiring premium build quality, crisp visuals, or high-end photography will need to pay extra.

Alcatel deserves credit for squeezing decent speed and longevity into an affordable Android tablet.
