New Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Kids Edition (SM-T110) With Rubber Case Launched
When Amazon launched their newest range of Fire tablets yesterday, one of those tablets launched was the new children's tablet / kids tablets Amazon Fire Kids Edition for $99 with a 2 year guarantee. Not wanting to be left out out of the kids tablet game, Samsung USA launched a new tablet in this segment themselves with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Kids Edition with a green bumper case:

The specs of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Kids Edition (SM-T110) are lower than those on the Amazon Fire Kids Edition. Now brace yourself – when was the last time you heard of a new tablet launched with Android 4.2? Today is that day, as the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Kids Edition is released with Android 4.2. No really! Kids love Jelly Beans, but I'm not sure if it's Android 4.2 Jelly Bean they're after.
That aside, the other specs are in brief a 7-inch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution, a dual-core 1.2 GHz Marvell processor, with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage that can be expanded with microSD cards up to 32GB. It also has a 2MP rear camera, a USB 2.0 port, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, accelerometer, and a 3600 mAh battery. So the specs are the same as on the regular non-children's tablet edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.
Now onto the children's side of this tablet. It has a green bumper case to protect both the tablet and the child, as well as provide better grip for a child's hands. Naturally, this tablet isn't preloaded with Office. Instead Samsung have worked with a company called Fingerprint in order to deliver a child safe environment on this tablet.
For starters it has the typical kids mode, that gives parents control over what children can access, what they have accessed and when, and how long they can use the tablet every day. The user interface and characters within are familiar elements that children recognise from DreamWorks Animation, The Jim Henson Company, Highlights for Children, HiT Entertainment, National Geographic, PBS KIDS, and Sesame Workshop, as well as a few others.
The tablet comes pre-loaded with hundreds of educational apps, a 20 app starter kit, while more apps and content can be downloaded from the child safe Samsung Kids library that is a advertisement free environment. The children's tablet comes with a 3-month trial of the subscription service to content that otherwise costs $4.99 a month.
This is the 3rd children's tablet / kids tablet from Samsung, and regrettably they all have almost the same names, which can cause some confusion. The first one was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids Edition, launched two years ago and it had a neat optional case with a handle for it. The second kids tablet was launched in 2014, and it was also called Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Kids Edition, owing to the fact that the underlying tablet was the same tablet as the model launched today. But the content, services, and bumper case for it is new.
The price is $149, which is 50% more than Amazon's newest kids tablet. That's a lot of Jelly Beans.
