10.5-Inch Windows Tablet Microsoft Surface Go 4 Disclosed Today

So Microsoft did disclose the Surface Go 4 today, but so far they've only disclosed it as the “Surface Go 4 for Business.” But despite the wording that confused everyone, the Surface Go 4 will still be available for the regular consumer market, with a launch on October 3, from $579:

The upgraded Surface Go 4 is still a 10.5-inch Windows tablet that's meant to offer a decent package of specs as an entry level Windows tablet from Microsoft.

The first model of the Surface Go 4 features the Intel N200 processor with Intel UHD Graphics GPU. And it has 8GB of RAM, with no options of any more or any less RAM.

But customers will be able to chose between 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB of UFS storage.

It continues to feature Microsoft's 10.5-inch PixelSense Display, which is a Full HD screen with a display resolution of 1920 x 1280, at 350 nits brightness, and protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It also has support for the Surface Pen.

But we are seeing some tiny upgrades in other areas.

Microsoft rates the battery life to 12.5 hours with this battery frugal chipset, and it features a Full HD front camera with facial unlocking, an 8MP rear camera, dual far-field Studio Mics now with Voice Clarity, and continues with the loud 2W stereo speakers with Dolby Audio Premium.

Other than that, it features good but not cutting edge Wi-Fi 6 and BT 5.1 wireless connectivity, and tablet sensors such as ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and NFC.

The ports includes a USB-C 3.1 port, a Surface Connect port, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm audio combo jack.

And the design hasn't changed, so it still has that rear integrated kickstand which folds far back for drawing mode. It has even managed to shed some weight, as it now weighs just 521 grams, while it's 8.3mm thick.

Which isn't that bad considering that this is a 10.5-inch tablet with a kickstand built into it.

We can only speculate why Microsoft didn't launch the Surface Go 4 right away as a tablet for the consumer market.

But like it's been mentioned before, the optional cellular version of this tablet with another chipset is not ready yet, so it could be that Microsoft waits until that chipset is ready, before they decide to make an even louder announcement on the Surface Go 4 for the consumer market. But we will have to wait and see.

We'll update when we know more about that. There are also some internal changes in Microsoft's Surface division these days, since Panos Panay who's been leading the product development for Microsoft is now leaving Microsoft in favor of Amazon instead.
