LG Files For WPAD and LPAD Trademarks

LG Electronics have filed for trademarks for the name WPAD and LPAD in the US, which could point to an early expectation of more LG tablets down the line.

Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark for both the name WPAD and LPAD includes: “Smart phones; Tablet computers; Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; Computers; Television receivers; Software for mobile phones.”

So far this is just a trademark filing, so we'll still have to wait for some more juicy details for what these devices could be, though it seems reasonable to suggest that these names would fit Android and Windows tablets.

LG have never committed truly to the tablet computer race in the way that Samsung, Asus, and Lenovo, or even Acer and HP have. So strategically LG can go either way, with either expansion or a complete pullout, though considering their new range of three LG G Pad's and two 11.6-inch sliders with either Windows or Android on board, it seems LG is working towards greater market presence in the tablet race.
