How to Stop Android from Automatically Connecting to Certain Wi-Fi Networks
Do you find it annoying when your Android device automatically connects to Wi-Fi networks without your permission? For example, you walk into a coffee shop and your device connects to their Wi-Fi, interrupting your current download. Luckily, there's a simple way to prevent this from happening. In this article, we'll show you how to disable auto-connect on certain Wi-Fi networks.
Disable Auto-Connect on Certain Wi-Fi Networks
To begin, open the Settings menu on your Android device. You'll see a list of available Wi-Fi networks, with your currently connected network at the top. Tap on your connected Wi-Fi network, and you'll be taken to the Wi-Fi network page. Look for the gear icon next to your connected Wi-Fi and tap on it.
Next, scroll down until you find the “Advanced” option. Tap on it to access additional settings. At the bottom of the page, you'll see an option labeled “Auto-connect.” Tap on it to turn off auto-connect for the specific Wi-Fi network.
By disabling auto-connect for this particular Wi-Fi network, your Android device will no longer connect to it automatically. However, it will still auto-connect to other Wi-Fi networks unless you change their settings as well.
It's important to note that this optional auto-connect feature has been available on Android skins since Android 9 or Android 10. It has been present in OneUI for some time, and I personally have this feature on Android 10.
Google introduced several privacy changes in Android 10, including randomized MAC addresses and Wi-Fi changes. These updates aimed to enhance user privacy and security.
