How to Bypass Discord Verification Code and Regain Access to Your Account
Losing access to your phone or security key can make logging in to Discord a real challenge. If you find yourself in this situation and need to log in to Discord without a two-factor authentication (2FA) verification code, don't worry. We've got you covered with alternative methods to regain access to your account. In this article, we'll show you how to disable 2FA, re-enable it on a device you own, and even enable SMS authentication to prevent future login issues.
Use Backup Codes
When you enable 2FA on Discord, the platform provides you with a list of backup codes for emergency situations like the one you're facing now. These backup codes can be a lifesaver when you can't access your phone. Here's how you can use them to log in without needing a 2FA verification code:
- Open the backup codes text file you downloaded after enabling 2FA.
- Copy one of the backup codes.
- Go to the Discord login page and paste the backup code instead of the authentication code.
- Click “Login,” and you'll be logged in to your Discord account.
However, keep in mind that using backup codes doesn't remove the old 2FA step from your account. Discord will still ask for a 2FA code the next time you try to sign in. To remove 2FA and set it up again from scratch, follow these steps:
- Click on the cog icon next to your username at the bottom right corner to open User Settings.
- In the User Settings, scroll down to the My Account section.
- Click on the “Remove 2FA” button.
- Paste another unused backup code in the pop-up window.
- Click “Remove 2FA.”
Once you've removed 2FA, you can access your Discord account on any device using just your username and password, without 2FA verification. However, for enhanced security, we recommend setting up 2FA again on your Discord account.
Use SMS Authentication
If you haven't downloaded the backup codes, you can still regain access to your Discord account by using SMS authentication. However, this method requires you to have already enabled SMS authentication on your account. If you haven't done so, it won't work for you. Here's how to log in with SMS authentication:
- Go to the Discord login page.
- Click on the “Receive auth code by SMS” option below the Login button on the 2FA page.
- You should receive an authentication code via SMS on your registered smartphone.
- Enter the code you received in the SMS.
- Click “Login” to access your account.
You can use the SMS authentication method as many times as needed. However, it's always a good idea to reset 2FA and set it up on a new phone that you have access to. To do this, follow the method below.
Find a Device Where You're Already Logged In
If you have a device where you're already logged into Discord, you can access your account without needing to log in or use backup codes. However, to log in from other devices, you'll need to disable 2FA on your account first. Here's how:
- Open Discord on any device where you're already logged in.
- Click on the cog icon next to your username at the bottom left corner.
- In the My Account section, scroll down to the Password and Authentication section.
- If you have backup codes, click on “Remove 2FA” and enter one of the unused backup codes.
- If you don't have backup codes, click on the “View Backup Codes” button.
- Enter your Discord password and click “Next.”
- A verification key will be sent to your registered email. Open your email, find the Discord email, and paste the verification code.
- You'll see all your backup codes. Copy one of them.
- Click on the “Remove 2FA” button.
- Paste the copied backup code and click “Remove 2FA” in the popup.
Congratulations! You've disabled 2FA and can now log in to your Discord account from any device using just your username and password. For enhanced security, we recommend re-enabling 2FA on Discord using a device that you own and have access to.
By following these methods, you can regain access to your Discord account without the need for a verification code. Remember to keep your account secure by enabling 2FA and using backup codes or SMS authentication. Happy Discord-ing!
