Hot New Linux Tablet StarLabs StarLite 5 With 16GB RAM, Intel N200, 12.5-Inch 3K Screen Launch

A few Linux tablets hits the market now and then, but usually none that gets the heart racing. This time however, the most interesting Linux tablet are entering the market since the JingPad A1 back in 2021. And it's the StarLite 5 from Star Labs.

Star Labs was founded by Linux enthusiasts 7 years ago, and have produced a series of Linux laptops and mini PCs before they announced their first Linux tablet today.

StarLite 5 is a 12.5-inch 2-in-1 tablet featuring a LED-backlit 2880 x 1920 resolution display and 300 nits brightness.

The processor is the new 3.7 GHz Intel ‘Alder Lake' N200 processor with Intel UHD graphics, a solid 16GB (4800MHz) LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of Gen 3 PCIe SSD storage.

That's an interesting combination of specs, and with so much and such snappy RAM, it will make the eyes pop on many Linux users.

Other specs on the StarLite 5 are dual-band Wi-Fi 5, BT 5.1, 2K front and rear cameras, and external monitor support for 2x 4K at 60/30 Hz. Security features includes BIOS Lock, Secure Boot, Measured Boot, and they have disabled the Intel Management engine.

The battery life is 12 hours long from a 38Whr battery with 65W charging.

Ports includes a micro-HDMI port, 2x USB-C 3.2, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card slot.

The full range of operating systems that can be ran are Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (64-bit), elementary OS 6.1 (64-bit), Linux Mint 21 (64-bit), Manjaro 21.3.7 (64-bit), MX Linux 21.1 (64-bit), Zorin OS 16.1 (64-bit), or Windows 11 22H1 (64-bit).

The keyboard has a trackpad and doubles as a cover, with a rear stand for the tablet. And the keyboard has support for 5 different languages, so this is the first internationally geared Linux tablet.

The price for the tablet without the keyboard is $498, while the keyboards costs $101 and can be had with US-English, UK-English, German, Spanish, French, or the Nordic keys and layout.

It can ship with Linux Ubuntu LTS 22.04.02 for free, but Windows can be added for $158, and Windows Pro for $290.

The delivery date is around the middle of October.
