Our Rating

  • Performance 5 / 10
  • Display 6 / 10
  • Battery 6 / 10
  • Design 5 / 10

Released in April 2013, the G7 is a bit thick at 9.8mm but fairly lightweight at 0.99 pounds. It runs an older Android OS version out of the box. Powering the experience is an unspecified single core processor.

The 7-inch TFT screen sports a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels. This allows you to view more content compared to a standard 5-inch phone. Photos and videos should pop nicely on the large canvass.

For your storage needs, a microSD card slot enables further expansion. Capture memories with the decent 3.15MP rear camera. It allows both photos and video recording. There is also a basic front VGA camera for selfies and video calls.

Connectivity options are highlighted by Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS. Conveniently transfer data and charge via the Micro USB port. An FM radio tuner provides free music playback.

The 2800mAh battery capacity gives up to 120 hours standby time. You also get approximately 4 hours of continuous talk time. So media consumption and gaming may drain it faster.

As a budget tablet phone, the G7 skips premium flourishes. The build consists of plain plastic on a slightly chunky frame. There is no mention of unique features or special software enhancements by Icemobile here.

But that huge display in your palm or pocket enables new use cases. Web browsing becomes more flexible on the enlarged screen real estate. Viewing and editing documents also benefits. And you can take in entire movies or seasons of your favorite shows on the go.

Ultimately if you want the biggest screen possible on a tight budget, the no frills Icemobile G7 warrants a look. While not encroaching on flagship territory in performance or design, its sheer display size for the price provides it a specific appeal.

Casual users embracing multimedia, web browsing, and ebooks over gaming and strenuous apps may find favor with this friendly giant.
