How to Make the Most of Edge Panels on Samsung Galaxy Phones

Opening an app or performing some other action on a smartphone is usually just a few swipes away. But what if you could access your favorite apps or tools quickly from any screen? That's where Edge panels on Samsung Galaxy phones come in. In this article, we'll explore what Edge panels are and how you can use them to enhance your smartphone experience.

What Are Edge Panels?

Edge panels on Samsung Galaxy devices are customizable panels that allow you to access selected apps, tools, contacts, and other important features quickly from any screen. You can open the Edge panel using the Edge handle, and it consists of multiple individual panels.

Each panel can host your preferred apps, contacts, tools, recent files, clipboard, notification panel, weather, tasks, and much more. Think of the Edge panel as a speed dial for your favorite things.

Unlike the app drawer on your Samsung galaxy phone, the Edge panel is not limited to just apps, and it can be accessed from anywhere on your phone. Some features are exclusive to the Edge panel itself, making it even more interesting. For example, the Tools panel includes a ruler, surface level, compass, and tally counter that you can't access anywhere else on your phone.

Similarly, the Smart Select Samsung panel allows you to take screenshots, extract text from images, create GIFs, and pin screenshots to the screen. The Clipboard panel lets you access all your clipboard items, including images. And the Notification edge allows you to view notifications quickly.

How to Use Apps Panel

The Apps panel is one of the most useful Edge panels. You can launch two apps simultaneously using app pairs in the Apps panel. To edit the Apps panel, tap on the three-bar icon at the bottom and press the Edit icon. From there, you can add or remove apps from the list. You can also show or hide recent apps by tapping the three-dot icon on the Apps list.

You can even create folders in the Apps panel by touching and holding one app and dragging it onto another. You can launch apps on split-screen or in a pop-up view from the Apps panel. Simply touch and hold the app and drag it towards the top or bottom edge of the screen to open it in split-screen mode. Dragging the app towards the middle of the screen will open it in a pop-up view.

By customizing the panels in the right way, you can have your own version of the operating system in the Edge panel. Now, let's dive into how to use Edge panels.

How to Enable or Disable Edge Panel

To enable or disable the Edge panel, go to Settings > Display and enable or disable the toggle next to Edge panels. Once enabled, you will see a transparent handle on the right or left edge of the screen. You can turn off the Edge panel by disabling this toggle.

How to Open Edge Panel

To open the Edge panel, simply swipe inwards towards the center of the screen from the Edge handle. The Edge handle is a thin, rectangular tab present on the right or left edge of the screen, depending on your preference. The Edge panel will open, and you will find individual panels that you can swipe right or left to view.

Please note that the Edge handle won't show up in the screenshots.

How to View Installed Edge Panels

To view all the installed panels, open the Edge panel and tap on the Settings icon at the bottom. This will take you to the Panels settings screen, where you can enable/disable, edit, reorder, uninstall, or add more Edge panels.

In case you don't see the Settings icon, go to phone Settings > Display > Edge panel > Panels.

How to Show or Hide Panels From Edge Panel

If you don't like certain panels, you can hide them without uninstalling them. Open the Panels settings screen as mentioned above, and tap on a panel to show or hide it. The blue checkmark above the panel indicates that it is active, while the empty circle indicates that the panel is disabled.

How to Add or Remove Items in Panels

Some panels inside the Edge panel can be customized to include apps or actions of your choice. Open the Panels settings screen and tap on the Edit option under the panels that can be customized. Depending on the selected panel, you can add or remove items from it.

Please note that only active panels can be customized. Make sure to enable the panel first in order to edit it.

How to Add More Edge Panels

In addition to the pre-installed panels, you can install more panels from Galaxy Store. To do so, go to the Panels settings screen and tap on Galaxy Store. From there, you can browse and install various panels. Once downloaded, the panels will appear in the list, and you can enable or hide them as needed.

How to Reorder Edge Panels

To change the order of panels, open the Panels settings screen and tap on the three-dot icon at the top. Select Reorder, and you will be able to drag and rearrange the panels using the two arrows icon.

How to Uninstall Panels

If you no longer want a panel on your phone, you can uninstall it. Open the Panels settings screen, tap on the three-dot icon, and select Uninstall. Tap on the remove icon next to the panel that you want to uninstall.

How to Customize Edge Handle

The Edge handle can also be customized to suit your preferences. To change its location, go to Settings > Display > Edge Panels > Handle. Tap on Position and choose either the right or left position. Alternatively, touch and hold the Edge handle on any screen and drag it to the new position.

You can also change the look of the Edge handle by adjusting its style, size, transparency, and width. Open the Edge Handle settings and use the available options to customize it. You can even hide the Edge handle by increasing the transparency level to maximum and decreasing the width to thin.
