How to Easily Share WiFi on Android Q without Sharing Password

Google has recently introduced the developer-exclusive Android Beta Program for its latest OS, Android Q. This new iteration of the operating system brings several exciting features, including system-wide dark mode, inbuilt screen recording, updated privacy and app permissions, and more. However, one feature that stands out is the ability to share your WiFi network without sharing the password, using just a QR code.

Sharing WiFi without Sharing Password

To use this feature, make sure you have the latest release of Android Q developer Beta installed on your device. Currently, it is only available for Pixel devices, but updates may extend to other devices in the future.

To get started, open the Settings app from your app drawer and navigate to the Wi-Fi settings by selecting “Network and Internet.”

Next, select the Wi-Fi option to view all available and connected networks. Tap the gear icon next to the connected network to access its information.

You will see a “Share” button below the network name. Tap on it, and if you have set up an authentication prompt, it will ask you to verify your identity through biometric authentication or an alternative method.

After authentication, a QR code will be generated. You can share this QR code with your friends and family, allowing them to connect to your WiFi network without needing to know the password.

Connecting to WiFi using QR Code on Android Q

To connect to a WiFi network using a QR code on Android Q, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app and go to the WiFi settings.
  2. Tap on “Add Network” to open a new window.
  3. Enter the SSID (network name) and tap the scan button located next to the input field.
  4. Use your device's camera to scan the QR code.
  5. The device will automatically connect to the WiFi network.

Android Q's QR code sharing feature is a significant step forward in simplifying WiFi connections. Although the developer beta is not yet available for the general public, we can expect more refined versions of these features in the final release.
