[Discussion] iOS Users Share the Hottest New App Finds for 2023

A recent post on the r/ios subreddit asked users to share their favorite new app discoveries of 2023. The post received over 400 comments with users highlighting some of the most useful, interesting and fun new apps they've come across this year.

One of the most upvoted apps mentioned was a-shell, a full terminal emulator for iOS. User narcabusesurvivor18 called it “basically a full blown terminal for your iPhone” and highlighted its integration with shortcuts to enable downloads. Other users shared how impressed they were with the functionality.

Picture This, a plant identification app, also received high praise. As iMmacstone2015 explained, it can identify plants, tell you how to care for them, list toxicity information, assess plant health and more. They were happy to pay for the app given how much it improved their plant care.

For organizing recipes and meal planning, Crouton and Mela were recommended. Sir_ale praised Crouton's AI recipe import and syncing features, while PetitRorqualMtl said Mela “completely changed how we deal with cooking” thanks to its intuitive interface.

Readwise and its daily flashcards based on Kindle highlights was called an “amazing idea” by SmoothAmbassador8. The app helps reinforce things users have previously read.

Other interesting app suggestions included a social network for book lovers called Fable, the health app Welltory, an AI fitness coach called Pectus, and a grocery list organizer named FoodShiner.
