9 Tips to Master Split Screen on Samsung Galaxy Phones
The split-screen functionality on Samsung Galaxy phones allows you to multitask by opening two or more apps at the same time. This feature is incredibly useful, enabling you to watch videos and read messages simultaneously. If you want to make the most out of your Samsung device, here are nine tips to use split-screen like a pro.
Put Apps in Split Screen Mode From Recents Screen
- Launch the first app on your phone.
- Open the Recent apps screen either using the Recents key or swipe up gesture.
- Tap the app’s icon on the Recents screen, then select “Open in split-screen view” from the menu.
- The app will take the top position in the split-screen view. Select the second app from the list, and both apps will appear on the screen.
Put Apps in Split Screen Mode From Edge Panel
If you use Samsung's Edge panel, you can easily drag and drop an app from the panel to put it in split-screen view.
- Put the first app in the split-screen view from the Recents screen.
- Open the Edge panel.
- Drag the app icon from the Edge panel to the top or bottom of the screen. It will open in split-screen view with the first app.
Reorder Apps
You can easily change the order of apps in the split-screen view.
- Tap on the three-dot icon between the two app panels.
- Press the up or down arrow symbol to change their position.
Change Size of App Panels
By default, both app panels occupy equal space on the screen. However, you can adjust their size to suit your preferences.
- Touch and hold the three-dot icon between the two apps.
- Drag it up or down to change the size of the apps.
Turn off Split Screen View
If you want to use only one app, you can easily exit the split-screen view. Here are four ways to do it:
- Using the Back key or swipe gesture.
- By changing the size of the required app to the fullest.
- Using the Maximize button.
- Using the Close button.
Launch Two Apps in Split Screen Automatically
If you frequently use two apps simultaneously, you can set them to launch automatically in split-screen mode.
- Enable the Edge panel in Settings > Display > Edge panels.
- Open the two desired apps in split-screen view.
- Tap on the three-dot icon between the two apps and hit the App pair icon. This will create the app pair.
- Open the Edge panel and select the app pair to open it in split-screen view.

Samsung Galaxy phones offer a pop-up view feature that allows you to open apps in a floating window over any existing app or apps in split-screen view. To use this feature:
- From the Recent apps screen, tap on the app icon and select “Open in the pop-up view.”
- From the Split Screen view, tap on the grey/blue bar in the app panel and press the Pop-up view icon.
- From the Edge panel, drag the desired app icon to the center of the screen.
Open Any App in Split Screen Mode
Although not all apps support split-screen functionality by default, you can force them to use it by enabling a setting in Developer/Lab mode.
- Go to Settings > Advanced features > Labs and enable “Multi window for all apps.”
- If the option is not available, enable Developer options by tapping on “Build number” multiple times in Settings > About phone > Software information. Then, go to Developer options and enable “Force activities to be resizable” and “Multi window for all apps.”
