Why I Love and Hate the Google Pixel
I've been using the Google Pixel 3 for about five months now, and I have some strong opinions about the device. First of all, I want to say that everyone should try using a Pixel at least once. It provides the pure Android experience, and most people will love it. However, there are some downsides that come with this experience. Let me take you through my journey with the Pixel.
The Perfect Size and Amazing Camera
On the first day I got the Pixel, I immediately appreciated its compact size. It's perfect for single-handed usage, allowing me to multitask effortlessly. I can even eat a burger with one hand and still use the phone with the other. It's that convenient.
And let's talk about the camera. As every Pixel user knows, the camera is awesome! I've never had a moment when the camera disappointed me. The photos are always on point, capturing the perfect moments effortlessly. I no longer have to worry about taking multiple shots or refocusing. The Pixel delivers stunning photos every time.
Smooth User Experience with Stock Android
One of the things I love about the Pixel is the stock Android experience. Unlike other Android skins, such as EMUI or MIUI, the Pixel's RAM and battery management are less aggressive. I no longer miss notifications or have useful apps killed in the background. I can use my phone without worrying about missing important messages or updates.
The notification management on stock Android is also great. I can easily customize which notifications I want to receive for each app. For example, I can disable post and comment notifications on Instagram but still receive direct message notifications. It's all about personalization and convenience.
Timely Updates and Useful Features
The Pixel was one of the first phones to receive the Android 10 update. I didn't have to wait for months or rely on the manufacturer's update schedule. Plus, Android 10 brings on-device machine learning, which has some interesting use cases. I particularly like the suggested replies feature. The Pixel learned my preferred responses within a couple of weeks, making my messaging experience more efficient and enjoyable.
Another useful feature in Android 10 is the Activity Management section. It's now easier to manage saved passwords, location history, and ads personalization. I can even opt-out of personalized ads and control how long my search data stays on Google's servers. It's a step in the right direction for privacy-conscious users.
The Battery Life Issue
Now, let's address the elephant in the room – the battery life. The Pixel 3's battery life is, to put it bluntly, terrible. Even with moderate usage, I have to charge my phone twice a day. I've tried fast charging, but it doesn't make much of a difference. The Pixel 3's battery drains quickly, and it's a major inconvenience for power users like me.
I've had to carry a power bank with me everywhere I go, just to ensure I don't run out of battery. Even during a 16-hour train ride, I had to charge my phone three times. It's frustrating to have such a great device with subpar battery life. This is an issue that Google needs to address as soon as possible.
In Conclusion
Despite the battery life issue, I still love using the Pixel 3. It offers the best software experience that Android has to offer. The compact size, amazing camera, and smooth user experience make it a joy to use. I'm willing to overlook the battery life for now because the overall experience is worth it.
So, if you're looking for a smartphone with a great camera and a pure Android experience, the Google Pixel is a fantastic choice. Just be prepared to carry a power bank with you at all times.
