The 18.4-inch large Android 5.1 Lollipop tablet Samsung Galaxy View was unveiled on Wednesday, October 28, and will be released the coming Friday, November 6 according to Samsung.
The tablet is built with a focus around media consumption more than on mobility and aspects usually associated with a smaller tablet. But apart from its size, the Samsung Galaxy View has all the features you otherwise would find in a good tablet, even navigation sensors like GPS and GLONASS, as well as a battery with an 8 hour duration, a front camera, the fastest Wi-Fi, and even a powerful octa-core (8-core) processor.
In addition to all those features it also has a built in kickstand with different angles as well as handle on top, and the kind of apps included that you expect in a media consumption tablet. A new CNN app have just been released on Google Play for the Samsung Galaxy View already.
Specifically, the Samsung Galaxy View specs range from a 18.4-inch screen (true dimension is 18.58 inches), with a Full HD resolution 1920 x 1080 IPS touchscreen with sharp images, to the powerful new 1.6 GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 7580 processor with the Mali-T720 graphics processor (GPU), 2GB of DDR3 RAM, and 32GB of eMMC storage with 128GB microSD card support.
The front camera is a 2.1MP camera, with f2.2. It actually has some powerful speakers the Galaxy View, with two 4 watt stereo speakers, so that means the sound is much better than what you'd normally expect from a tablet.
And while some wireless carriers like AT&T in the US will be selling a more expensive version of the Samsung Galaxy View with 4G LTE, the Wi-Fi model has complete dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi so that you can stream any video you like without a glitch. It also has the latest Bluetooth 4.1, so you can connect Bluetooth keyboards, game controllers, pair it with your phone, or anything else that Bluetooth can be used to.
It has a separate charger/power plug, in addition to a USB port and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack on the right side.
Samsung says owners can expect an average 8 hour battery life from the 5700 mAh battery, regardless of the activity, whether it's watching movies, playing games, or browsing.
For people who have learned to rely on Android as an OS for pretty much everything, this tablet can make a lot of sense, and it has potential for playing games on too, in addition to being a more social way of watching videos. With Samsung launching it well before Christmas, it could become more popular than a lot of people have imagined.
