Maxwest has released its latest budget-friendly Android tablet, the 7-inch TAB 7160DC. Running Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, this affordable device aims to deliver a decent tablet experience without breaking the bank.

The TAB 7160DC is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor which provides adequate horsepower for basic functions like web browsing, video streaming and light gaming.

1GB of RAM pairs with 8GB of internal storage, with a microSD slot allowing storage expansion up to 32GB.

On the front sits a 7-inch 1024 x 600 pixel resolution display. While not nearly as sharp as more expensive tablets, the screen size is handy for gaming and video viewing on the go.

An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts brightness as lighting conditions change.

For imaging duties, a VGA front-facing camera handles video calls while a rear 2MP camera allows basic photography. Disappointingly neither camera has flash support. connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

On the software front, the TAB 7160DC runs a stock build of Android 4.1 which is still decently modern. The interface is smooth and intuitive with access to popular Google apps and services.

In the hand, the tablet feels solid but unexceptional in its plastic construction. The device measures 160 x 115 x 14.3mm and weighs a little over 300g making it lightweight enough for prolonged use.

Battery life is likely average given the older internals, but casual use should still deliver up to 8 hours of uptime. When idle, the tablet sips power minimizing standby drain.

The Maxwest TAB 7160DC brings capable tablet functionality on a very easy budget. While it doesn't boast anywhere near premium build or specs, it packs in a nice modern OS, microSD expansion and decent core experience.

For light users on a strict budget, this no-frills tablet gets the job done.
