BLU has released a new 7-inch Android tablet, the Touchbook G7. This budget tablet aims to deliver tablet functionality at an affordable price point.

The Touchbook G7 ships with a 7-inch, 600 x 1024 IPS display, offering decent 170 PPI pixel density.

Visuals should be reasonably sharp for the price, if unexceptional.

BLU opts for a mediocre dual-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 processor, though it does allow for multitasking.

RAM is very limited at 512MB, which will hamper performance.

Storage is moderately better at 4GB internal, expandable via microSD up to 64GB.

On the software front, BLU bundles a dated Android 5.0 Lollipop

This operating system is now three generations behind the latest Android 8.0 Oreo

The outdated OS will prevent owners from running many newer apps and games.

BLU does include an FM radio app, covering one common budget tablet feature.

The Touchbook G7 provides basic cameras – 2MP rear, VGA front.

Video recording maxes out at 720p/30fps, and photo/video quality will be unexceptional.

Battery capacity seems small at 3000mAh, and BLU does not quote expected battery life.

Still, runtimes should suffice for casual use. Connectivity comprises Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS.

In summary, those seeking an affordable starter tablet may wish to consider the BLU Touchbook G7.

It delivers tablet functionality on a tight budget. However, buyers will make performance, feature, and future-proofing tradeoffs for the low price.

Given its budget pricing, outdated software, and entry-level specs, the Touchbook G7 will perform best as a casual entertainment and web-browsing companion.
