How to Remove Facebook Messenger from Instagram After the New Update

Facebook recently introduced an update that allows Instagram and Messenger users to communicate across apps. This means that your Facebook and Instagram chats are merged together and can be accessed through Instagram itself. However, if you don't use Facebook Messenger and don't want to receive notifications from it, you can easily opt-out of this cross-app communication. Let's see how.

Removing Facebook Messenger from Instagram

To disable this feature, you need to have the latest version of the Instagram app installed on your device. Once you have it, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap on the Profile icon located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  1. On the Profile page, tap on the Hamburger button at the top right corner.

  2. Now, tap on the Settings option to reveal the settings page. Here, you will find a new option labeled “Facebook Accounts Center”. Tap on the Accounts Center button.

  1. Facebook will ask for your confirmation before completely removing Facebook Messenger from Instagram. Tap the remove button, and you're done. Instagram will no longer send you notifications of messages received on other Messengers.

That's it! You have successfully removed Facebook Messenger from Instagram.

Closing Words

While I appreciate features that enhance the chat experience, merging two separate messaging apps into one is unnecessary. It's worth mentioning that even if you decide to keep both messengers active, Facebook does not actually merge your inboxes. This means that you won't see all your Instagram chats in Messenger or vice versa.
