How To Make Keyboard Bigger On iPad

iPads are excellent for watching videos, FaceTime calls, gaming, and more. Yet, you may encounter instances where the keyboard seems smaller, causing inconvenience.

There are effective solutions available, whether due to unfamiliarity or a preference for a larger interface.

Here, we present five methods to enlarge the iPad keyboard, applicable to all models. Let's dive into these options to enhance your typing experience immediately!

5 Ways To Make Keyboard Bigger On iPad

Landscape Mode Switch

Switching to landscape from portrait mode is a simple way to enlarge the keyboard on iPads. To do this, first disable the Portrait mode lock on your device. Once turned off, the screen can rotate horizontally to increase the keyboard size, which helps with more accurate typing. Here’s how:

  • Access the iPad's Control Center by swiping from the screen’s upper-right side.
  • A red rotation lock icon means it is enabled, thus preventing your iPad from switching modes automatically.
  • Toggle it off to rotate your screen.

When typing, simply rotate the iPad horizontally for a larger keyboard.

Disable Floating Keyboard

Floating keyboard on iPad appears small and is not fixed at the screen’s bottom, it is likely in. Floating mode reduces the keyboard's size, making it easier to type with just one hand. Although convenient, it is frustrating if activated unintentionally.

You need to exit floating mode to return the keyboard to its normal size. Although you cannot completely disable Floating mode, you can resize the keyboard to get a full-scale version. Here are methods to achieve this:

  • First, pinch it out. Place your two fingers atop the floating keyboard then spread the fingers apart and enlarge it to full size.
  • Grab the small floating keyboard by the horizontal bar found at its bottom. Drag it down to the bottom. This will disable the tiny keyboard on your iPad.

Disable Split Keyboard

If split feature is on, the keyboard is divided into two parts that can move separately. This can be handy for typing with both hands but makes the keys smaller. You need to turn off split feature to get the full keyboard back.

Note that only some iPad models have the Split Keyboard. If you’re unsure about your iPad model, below is how to check it.

  • Place a finger on both halves to rejoin the keyboard halves and slide them together.
  • Press and hold the keyboard symbol at the bottom, then slide your finger to “Dock and Merge” without lifting it.

Try Using the In-Built Zoom Feature

iPads have a zoom feature to magnify the screen. The zoom feature can be used to make the keyboard bigger. Here’s how to do it:

  • Open Settings.
  • Click “Accessibility,” then “Zoom.”
  • Turn the toggle on.
  • A zoomed window appears.
  • Tap the “Zoom Controller” then “Show Controller” toggle.

Try Third-Party Applications

In addition to the methods mentioned earlier, you can use third-party apps to replace your iPad’s default keyboard with an app with more customization options. These apps let you customize the size, theme, layout, color, font, and keyboard settings.

For example, check out iPad apps like GIF Keyboard. After downloading the app, follow the instructions to use third-party apps on your iPad. These are the common methods to increase the size of your iPad’s keyboard. Hope these tips help you resize and restore your iPad’s keyboard to its normal size.
