How to Find Songs on YouTube by Humming or Whistling
Have you ever found yourself captivated by a catchy tune on TikTok, Reels, or Shorts, but you couldn't remember the name of the song? Don't worry, because YouTube has a solution for you. With its latest update, you can now search for a song on YouTube simply by humming or whistling. Isn't that amazing? Let's dive into how this feature works.
Finding Songs on YouTube by Humming or Whistling
Before we get started, it's important to note that this feature is only available on the YouTube mobile app. So make sure you have the app installed and updated on your iPhone or Android phone. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you find songs by humming or whistling:
- Open the YouTube app on your mobile device and ensure that you have the latest version installed. If not, update the app from the App Store or Play Store.
- Tap on the Search button located in the top right corner of the app's interface. On the next screen, you'll find the Mic button either at the top or bottom.
- Switch to the Song tab and start humming or whistling the tune you're looking for. YouTube will take a few moments to analyze the sample before presenting you with the results.
For example, we tried humming the song “We Don't Talk Anymore,” and YouTube accurately detected the music. We also tested the feature by whistling a regional song, and as expected, it successfully identified the song. Additionally, we found that YouTube can detect songs by listening to music playing nearby, just like Shazam.
Problems You May Encounter
While YouTube's hum-to-detect song feature is impressive, there are a few problems you may encounter. Sometimes, YouTube may not be able to find the song you're humming or whistling. This can happen if your humming pattern doesn't match the song you're looking for or if the song is relatively unknown. For instance, when we tried humming some anime songs, it didn't work.
On rare occasions, YouTube may display random results that are unrelated to the song you're seeking. However, in most cases, you'll likely find the song you're looking for.
Discover Songs Through Humming on YouTube
With the introduction of the “Hum to Search Song” feature on YouTube, you no longer need to rely on third-party apps like Shazam or SoundHound to discover new songs. This feature has made it much easier to find and listen to songs directly within the YouTube app, providing a more convenient experience.
