How to Easily Add Pages and Page Numbers in Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word offers various options for adding pages to your document, but it can be confusing to know which option to choose and why. In this article, we will explain the different ways to add pages to your Microsoft Word document and also guide you on how to add page numbers.
Adding a Blank Page in Microsoft Word
Adding a blank page is useful when you want to divide a long document into sections or mark the end of a section. To insert a blank page, simply place your cursor where you want the page to appear, click on Insert, and select Blank Page under the Pages option. Within seconds, you'll see a blank page inserted at the desired location.
Inserting a Page Break in Microsoft Word
A page break is different from a blank page and can be used to push content to the next page. To insert a page break, place your cursor where you want the break to occur, click on Insert, and select Page Break under Pages. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter for a quick page break.
Understanding the Difference: Page Break vs. Section Break
While a page break simply moves content to the next page, a section break allows you to apply new formatting to a specific section of your document. To add a section break, go to Layout and click on Breaks. Then, select Next Page under Section Breaks.
Adding Page Numbers in Microsoft Word
Page numbers are a helpful way to indicate the length of a document and allow readers to navigate through it easily. To add page numbers, go to Insert and select Page Number. Choose the location where you want the page numbers to appear, such as the top, bottom, margins, or current position of the page.
If you don't want the page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. Note that although the first page won't be numbered, the second page will start from page number 2.
If you want to start numbering from the second page without numbering the first page, go to Page Number and click on Format Page Numbers. Set the number next to Start at to 0, and press Esc when you're done.
Adding and formatting pages, as well as inserting page numbers, might seem complicated at first. But with Microsoft Word's user-friendly features, you can easily manage your document's structure and navigation. Whether you need to create sections, insert blank pages, or add page numbers, Word has got you covered!
