How to Customize Netflix Buttons on NVIDIA Shield TV 2019
NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 comes with a remote that is packed with features like backlight buttons, IR volume controls, and a dedicated Netflix button. While the Netflix button is hardcoded to open the Netflix app, it is possible to remap it to open other apps. In this article, we will explore how to customize the Netflix button on your NVIDIA Shield TV remote.
Customizing the Quick Settings Button
Before we dive into remapping the Netflix button, it's important to note that the 2019 Shield TV remote already has one customizable button, the Quick Settings button. By default, it opens the Settings pane, but you can change it to open any app of your choice, such as YouTube or Chrome.
To customize the Quick Settings button, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Settings page by clicking on the gear icon on the top right corner.
Step 2: Navigate to “Remote & Accessories” under General Settings.
Step 3: Click on the “Customize Settings button” option to reveal the options.
Step 4: Choose what you want the button to do. Select “Open an app” if you want to assign an app to the button.
Step 5: Select the app of your choice, and you're done. Now, the button will open the app every time you press it.
Remapping the Netflix Button
If you want to remap the Netflix button to open a different app or perform a different action, you can use a Button Mapper app. One such app is available on the Play Store, and you can easily install it.
Follow these steps to remap the Netflix button using the Button Mapper app:
Step 1: Install and open the Button Mapper app from the Play Store.
Step 2: Before assigning actions to the Shield TV remote buttons, enable an accessibility service that allows you to override the preexisting commands. Open Settings and navigate to Device Preferences.
Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and select the Accessibility option from the list.
Step 4: Toggle the Enable switch next to Button Mapper.
Step 5: Go back to the Button Mapper app, where you will find a list of buttons to which you can assign actions. However, the Netflix button is not recognized by the app, so you'll need to manually add it to the list.
Step 6: Select the “Add Buttons” option.
Step 7: Press the Netflix button or any button you want to customize.
Step 8: Once the button is mapped, enable the Customize toggle switch and assign an action. You can choose between single tap, double tap, and long press to assign different actions to the same button.
That's it! You have successfully remapped the Netflix button on your NVIDIA Shield TV remote. It's important to note that the custom action you assign does not replace the existing action assigned to the button. Instead, it superimposes the custom action, so you will still notice the original action followed by the customized action.
Remapping Remote Buttons on NVIDIA Shield TV, Pro, and Tube
While the first method is suitable for customizing one button on the remote, the Button Mapper app gives you the power to customize every button on the remote in three different ways. Theoretically, you can assign up to 48 different actions to all the buttons on the remote, giving you complete control over the device.
With these customization options, you can personalize your NVIDIA Shield TV experience and make it even more tailored to your preferences. So go ahead and explore the possibilities of customizing your remote buttons today!
