How to Create Duets on Instagram Reels with Remix

Instagram Reels has become one of the most successful TikTok alternatives out there. And now, Instagram introduces a new feature called Remix, which allows users to create duets on Reels, similar to the popular feature on TikTok. In this article, we will guide you on how to make remix videos on Instagram Reels and provide you with all the information you need to get started.

How to Access the Remix Feature on Reels

To access the Remix feature on Reels, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Reel that you want to remix and tap on the three-dot menu icon at the bottom right corner.
  2. Look for the “Remix This Reel” option at the bottom of the menu and tap on it to start remixing the reel.

However, there are a few differences compared to creating a reel on your own. You won't have the option to change the video layout, speed, or length. These settings must be determined beforehand.

  1. If you want to use your own audio, tap on the “Audio” option and delete the original audio used in the post.
  2. Press the shutter button to record your reel alongside the reel you want to remix. Once done, tap the back arrow to trim your video.
  3. Tap on the forward arrow button to continue to the next step. Here, you can add stickers, give a voiceover to your reel, and more.
  4. You also have the option to adjust the audio mix between the original and your video.
  5. Once you're satisfied with your remix, add a caption, crop your profile image, tag people, and you're ready to share it.

How to Enable Remix for Older Reels

The remix feature will work for Instagram reels that were uploaded after the feature was introduced. But if you want to allow people to remix your older videos, you can easily do so by following these steps:

  1. Open the reel that you want to enable the remix feature for.
  2. Tap on the three-dot menu and select “Enable Remixing”.
  3. Now, Instagram users can remix your older videos too.

You can also disable the remix feature for individual reels using the same steps.

How to Disable Remix for Your Instagram Channel

If you prefer to disable the remix feature altogether for your Instagram channel, follow these steps:

  1. Open your profile page and tap on the hamburger menu icon at the top right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy.
  3. Tap on Reels and toggle the “Enable Remixing” option to turn off the remix feature for all your reels on Instagram.

While Instagram Remix for Reels works similarly to the Duet feature on TikTok, there are a few subtle differences.
