How to Create a Welcoming Server on Discord
When you have a server with a lot of channels, users, and rules to follow, it can be overwhelming for new members to get the hang of your server. But fear not! You can easily solve this issue by setting up a welcome screen on Discord, introducing your server to new users. And the best part? No bots required! Let me show you how to quickly set up a welcome screen on Discord using the native method.
Setting Up a Welcome Screen on Discord
To set up a welcome screen on Discord, you first need to enable the community option for your Discord server. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:
- Open the Discord desktop app or website in your favorite browser and select the server you want to add a welcome screen to.
- On the server page, click on the server name at the top left and select “Server Settings” from the drop-down menu.
- In the Server Settings, choose the “Enable Community” option in the left sidebar.
- On the Community page, click on the “Get Started” button.
- Toggle on the checkbox for “Verified email required” and “Scan media content from all members.” Then click “Next.”
- Select the channels where Discord should send rules, guidelines, and community updates. You can create new channels if needed. Click “Next.”
- Enable the checkbox for “Default notifications to Members only” and “Remove moderation permissions from @everyone.”
- Select the “I agree and understand” checkbox and click on “Finish Setup.” Congratulations! You have now enabled your server as a community.
Now, let's set up the welcome screen:
- Click on the “Welcome Screen” button under the Community section.
- Click on the “Set up Welcome Screen” button.
- In the pop-up that appears, select a channel that new users should first check out. Choose a rules channel or a discussion channel, depending on your needs. Set a relatable emoji and describe the channel for new users. Click “Save.”
- If you want to add more channels, click on the “Add another channel” option below.
- Repeat step 11 to add more channels and their descriptions and emojis.
- Once you've added all the channels, enter a description for the server itself. This will act as the welcome message and explain what your server is all about.
- Click on the “Preview” option to see what your welcome screen will look like to new users.
- If you're satisfied with the result, click on the “Enable” button. That's it! Any new user joining the server will see the welcome screen on both desktop and mobile.
