How to Create a Collaborative Playlist on Apple Music
Apple Music has finally introduced the long-awaited collaborative playlist feature with the release of iOS 17.2 Beta. This means that you can now collaborate with your friends, family, or fellow music lovers to create and manage playlists together. Whether you're planning a road trip with your friends or just want to curate music together, creating a collaborative playlist on Apple Music is simple and fun.
Add Someone to a Collaborative Playlist on Apple Music
To add someone to a playlist you created, follow these steps:
- Open the playlist you want others to join and tap on the collaborate icon.
- A popup will appear to invite your friends. You can also edit your name and photo to be visible to other collaborators.
- For better privacy, enable Approve Collaborators. This ensures that only the people you allow can join the playlist from your shared link.
- Once done, tap on Start Collaboration.
- An invitation link will be created. You can copy the link or share it with your friends using any messaging app.
- You can also share the QR code and invite link for your playlist by tapping on the Manage Collaboration icon.
Join a Collaborative Playlist on Apple Music
If someone has shared a link with you to collaborate in their playlist, follow these steps to join it:
- Simply tap on the invite link you received. If the link is in iMessage, you can preview a song and join the playlist by tapping on the play icon and Join Playlist button.
- If the playlist owner has enabled the Approve Collaborators feature, a pop-up will appear. Modify your name and photo to be visible to the owner, and then hit Request to Join.
- Once you request to join a playlist, the owner will be notified. After they approve your request, the playlist will be added to your library.
Remove Someone From a Collaborative Playlist on Apple Music
Only the owner of a collaborative playlist can remove other members. Here's how:
- Tap on the Manage Collaboration icon and right-swipe on the participant's name you want to remove.
- Swiping on the name will reveal the Remove button. Tap on it and then select Remove from the confirmation.
- If you're not the owner of the playlist, you can simply tap on the Leave button in Manage Collaboration to exit from the collaborative playlist.
Manage Collaborative Playlist on Apple Music
To manage your collaborative playlist, you can navigate through a few settings. These settings allow you to control various aspects of the playlist, such as managing collaboration requests, updating invite links, and more.
- Manage Collaboration Requests: Check all the requests for Apple Music playlist collaboration by tapping on the Manage Collaboration icon. Accept or reject requests by tapping on the green checkmark or red cross icon.
- Stop Collaboration: End a collaborative playlist by tapping on the Stop button and selecting Stop in the confirmation.
- Change Approval Permission: Enable or disable Approve Collaborators to control who can join the playlist without approval.
- Update Invite Link: The invitation link expires in 7 days. Tap on generate a new link to update it.
- Follow Other Collaborators: Tap on the participants below the playlist name and follow other collaborators.
- Check Who Added the Song: The profile icon of the participant who added the song will appear above the song's album art. You can also check the participant's name when playing the song on full screen.
