How to Check If RAM Is Dual Channel on Windows 10 & iMac

In single-channel mode, there is only one road, and the vehicles (data) have to drive in a single line behind each other. But in dual-channel mode, two vehicles can drive simultaneously, resulting in more data being sent.
To enable dual-channel mode, your motherboard needs to support it. Check the manufacturer's website to confirm if your motherboard supports dual-channel memory.
Choosing RAM for Dual-Channel Mode
When it comes to choosing RAM for dual-channel mode, it's essential to consider a few factors. First, make sure to buy RAM kits with the same Double Data Rate (DDR) version, frequencies, and capacity to ensure optimal performance.
Contrary to popular belief, RAM sticks with different frequencies can still run in dual-channel mode, but they will fall back to the lower frequency. Similarly, if you have different RAM capacities, the first part will run in dual-channel mode, and the rest will run in single-channel mode.
Though it is possible to mix and match different RAM sticks, it is advised to use RAM with similar specifications for the best performance.
How to Check If RAM Is in Dual-Channel Mode
To check if your RAM is in dual-channel mode on Windows 10, follow these steps:
- Download and install the CPU-Z app from here.
- Open the app and navigate to the Memory tab.
- Look for the “Channel #” label. If it says “Dual,” your RAM is running in dual-channel mode. If it says “Single,” it is running in single-channel mode.
You can also use benchmarking apps like MaxxMem to check the dual-channel mode. Some manufacturers, such as ASUS or Acer Predator, display the memory channel mode in the BIOS menu.
For iMac users, you can check the dual-channel mode using the System Information app. Go to the Memory tab, and if you see multiple memory slots, you are in dual-channel mode.
In Linux, you can use the following command to check the dual-channel mode:
