Gemini Is Moving Closer To Launching On Tablets

Gemini's Launch For Tablets

Since the beginning, tablets could not be used with Gemini's Android version; it was only compatible with certain devices. Given that Google intended to use the Pixel Tablet as a sort of smart display with Assistant, this was made quite evident.

Google made a significant step toward having Gemini work on the Pixel Tablet with version 15.12 of the Google Search app and maybe with version 1.0.618909562 of the Gemini app. The app has additional content in this update that discusses using the AI on your “tablet.”

Effortless Tablet Task Management with Gemini

Gemini has access to certain system resources and data when it uses the Google app to function as this tablet's digital assistant. This includes the dialer, contact and call records (to help you remain in touch), apps like Clock (to help you manage timers and alarms), and what's on the screen (to help you respond to it).

Since Gemini is still learning, the Google Assistant may fill in for you on some tasks. It's possible that not all of Assistant's features are accessible.

If you activate “Hey Google” and Voice Match in the settings, you can speak to Gemini or Google Assistant without using your hands, depending on which one is ready to respond.

With this achievement, our team took a deeper look and successfully activated Gemini on a Pixel Tablet. You can see some of the experience in our screenshots below. In general, Gemini's appearance on the Pixel Tablet is almost the same as its operation on the Pixel Fold.

Interestingly, the classic Google Assistant is still accessible on the Pixel Tablet even with Gemini turned on. Saying “Hey Google” while the iPad is docked will activate Google Assistant rather than Gemini.

For the time being, I like that I can use Gemini on the Pixel Tablet without it affecting its important role in my smart home setup, even though I expect Gemini's skills to control smart home devices to improve with time and eliminate this disparity.

We believe that the first device to adopt Gemini formally will be the Pixel Tablet. The availability of Gemini on other tablets, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab series, is still unknown.
