Dr.Fone: The Ultimate Smartphone Toolkit
I recently started using Dr.Fone, a powerful software that allows you to manage your smartphone data, repair your system, and even transfer contents to a new phone. If you've been searching for similar software and haven't made up your mind yet, this article is here to help. Let's dive in!
What is Dr.Fone?
Dr.Fone, developed by Wondershare, is specialized software that offers a range of tools to troubleshoot and fix software problems on your smartphone. It consists of an Android toolkit, an iOS toolkit, and a complete toolkit that combines the features from the first two. With Dr.Fone, you can recover recently deleted data, transfer files and photos to your computer, and even migrate data to a fresh device. Additionally, it offers features such as system repair, system unlock, social media messenger backup, and more. Let's take an in-depth look at these features below.
Features
Phone Manager
The Phone Manager feature allows you to access all your smartphone data on your computer. It categorizes the sections into photos, music, film, contacts, and apps. If you have a lot of data on your phone and want to explore or back it up on your computer, Dr.Fone makes it easy for you. While smartphones are generally easy to explore without any software, Dr.Fone simplifies the process even further.
However, one drawback I found is that the application explorer feature for iPhones doesn't allow you to explore installed apps due to Apple restrictions, yet it still appears in the software.
Data Recovery
Data Recovery is another essential feature of Dr.Fone. It enables you to recover any accidentally erased data from your smartphone, such as photos or contacts. You can also recover data from iTunes backups. Although I couldn't personally verify its performance as the trial version didn't include this feature, it's a valuable tool to have in case of data loss.
WhatsApp Transfer
One common problem with WhatsApp is the limited backup options. iOS users can only backup to iCloud, while Android users can only use Google Drive. This means that when switching from iOS to Android, transferring existing WhatsApp chats and photos becomes a challenge. Dr.Fone's WhatsApp Transfer feature solves this problem seamlessly. Simply connect both smartphones to your computer, run the Dr.Fone app, and click the Transfer WhatsApp messages button. Your chats, attachments, and files will be transferred to the new phone. Moreover, you can back up your WhatsApp chats and attachments on your computer with just one click. It also supports other messaging apps like Line, Kik, Viber, WeChat, and more.
Other Notable Features
- Screen Unlock: Unlock your iPhone or Android smartphone if you get locked out or forget the passcode. However, note that this feature will reset the device, resulting in data loss. It's advisable to keep an updated backup on your computer.
- Phone Transfer: Transfer all your smartphone's content to another Android or iPhone effortlessly by connecting both devices to your computer using data cables.
- Virtual Location: Bypass the onboard GPS and set any location on your smartphone with Dr.Fone. This feature can be useful for certain apps, but if you need to access geo-restricted content, a VPN is a better option. It's worth mentioning that while there are Android apps that let you change your location, doing the same on an iOS device requires connecting it to a computer.
What's to Like?
I particularly appreciate the WhatsApp Transfer feature, as it simplifies transferring messages across devices. Additionally, being able to unlock iPhones is a useful capability. Overall, Dr.Fone offers a decent set of features, and if they align with your needs, it's worth considering.
Room for Improvement
To be honest, Dr.Fone has some shortcomings that should be addressed. For example, the app explorer section for iPhones should be removed since it doesn't work due to Apple restrictions. The option to save WhatsApp backups on your computer is also buried deep in the options, making it less user-friendly.
Price
Dr.Fone offers three different toolkit options. The individual toolkits for Android and iOS cost $79.95 and $99.95, respectively. The complete toolkit, which includes features for both Android and iOS, is priced at $139.95.
Should You Buy It?
Considering all the features mentioned above, Dr.Fone is a comprehensive package with a range of tools. However, it's worth noting that there are free alternatives available in the market that offer similar functionalities. The standout feature is the WhatsApp backup and migration capability. If you find value in having all the necessary features in one place, like a literal toolkit, then Dr.Fone is a good option for you. Otherwise, you may want to explore other alternatives.
