Test winner: Apple iPad Pro 12.9″ 512GB 5G (2022)
Advantages
- Brilliant and bright display
- Great performance
- Modern features
Disadvantages
- Rather long battery charging time
- No stylus or keyboard in the accessories
- No memory card slot
The Apple iPad Pro [2022] in the 12.9-inch version offers a brilliant display with a sharp image and a 120-Hertz refresh rate. The maximum brightness of the display is immense, as our laboratory measurements also show. The Apple M2 processor ensures outstanding performance.
It enables app multitasking as well as graphics processing and gaming. The large battery ensures around 10 hours of online operation in the test – which is a little short.
Charging with the included mains adapter also takes quite a long time, namely over 3 hours. The equipment is at the upper-class level. However, a stylus or keyboard is not included despite the high price.
Price tip: Xiaomi Pad 6
Advantages
- Strong mid-range performance
- Beautiful LC display with 144 Hertz
- Impressive battery performance
Disadvantages
- No memory card slot
- No dust and water protection
- No mobile phone option
The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a mid-range tablet with a great price-performance ratio. The performance is excellent for multimedia and gaming. However, it is not quite good enough to replace a notebook as it lacks a top processor.
Compared to its predecessor, the equipment is more modern, including Wi-Fi 6 and USB 3.2. Mobile telephony is not supported. The memory is 128 or 256 GB, and expansion via memory card is not possible. The webcam and camera offer good image quality.
The sound of the 4 stereo speakers is convincing. The 11-inch LC display has a higher resolution and is therefore sharper. The contrasts are also better and the refresh rate is 144 Hertz. Unfortunately, the battery life has dropped slightly and is now around 12.5 hours in the test, whereas the predecessor was better. However, the charging time is quite short.
Best Android tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
Advantages
- Huge OLED display
- Fast performance
- Modern high-end equipment
- S Pen included
Disadvantages
- The battery could run longer
- Less mobile
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra delivers a convincing Android experience in large format on a 14.6-inch diagonal. The sharpness and colors of the OLED display are pleasing, and the multi-window view is easy to work with, especially in combination with the S Pen.
However, Samsung has not yet come close to the handling of the iPads. A powerful Snapdragon processor together with 12 GB of RAM ensures smooth performance. The equipment scores with modern standards, good cameras, and powerful quad speakers. The Galaxy Tab is also protected against dust and water in accordance with IP68, and 5G is now also available via eSIM.
However, the battery surprises with a shorter runtime compared to its predecessor. With 12 hours of video and 8.5 hours of Internet use, you should still get through the day.
Also great: Apple iPad Pro 11″ 512GB 5G (2022)
Advantages
- Outstanding performance
- Impeccable battery life
- Attractive display
Disadvantages
- Battery charging time could be shorter
- Neither a stylus nor a keyboard included
- No memory card slot
The Apple iPad Pro [2022] in the 11-inch version benefits from the immense performance of the Apple M2 processor. Demanding apps run smoothly and gaming is hardly a challenge for the tablet. The device’s battery life is impeccable: we achieved a strong 12.5 hours in the online test.
The power adapter from the accessories takes 2.5 hours to charge the battery. In terms of display, the 11-inch version cannot keep up with the 12.9-inch model: Although the maximum brightness is impressive, it does not stand out. The display offers a sharp image and a 120 Hertz refresh rate.
The equipment is pleasing, but more accessories would be desirable. Memory sizes and 5G functionality can be selected as with all iPads.
Price tip alternative: HONOR Pad 9
Advantages
- Large memory in the affordable price segment
- Solid mid-range performance
- Satisfactory battery life
Disadvantages
- Old standards such as Wi-Fi 5 and USB 2.0
- Moderate camera quality in low light
- No mobile phone option
The Honor Pad 9 is an affordable mid-range tablet with solid test results. The memory in particular is ample for the price range: There is 256 GB of storage space and 8 GB of RAM. The battery lasts for over 10 hours of use. That is satisfactory. Standard apps are no challenge for the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor and the tablet is twice as fast as its predecessor.
The graphics power is nevertheless limited, demanding 3D games only run smoothly with reduced graphics details. The 12.1-inch LCD display has good sharpness and a 120-Hertz refresh rate. Brightness and contrast are also impressive.
However, the display cannot display the extended DCI-P3 color space. Apart from the large memory, the features are also rather mediocre. There are some old standards, such as Wi-Fi 5 and USB 2.0, and mobile communication is not available. Although the cameras are impressive in good lighting conditions, the image quality is poor at dusk.
Another good Android tablet: the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 X700
Advantages
- Attractive display
- Strong performance
- Impressive battery life
Disadvantages
- No power supply included
- No keyboard in the accessories
Thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is a powerful tablet for office, entertainment, or gaming. However, its performance does not come close to the top iPads. The display offers a sharp image, adequate brightness, and intense colors at a 120 Hz refresh rate.
The battery life is great: the tablet lasted around 13 hours in the online test. However, a power supply unit is not included. Instead, a stylus is included, which complements the high-quality equipment with its modern standards.
It would be practical if the device also came with a keyboard. The tablet is also optionally available with 5G mobile communications and in different memory sizes.
Cheapest good iPad: Apple iPad 9 64GB (2021)
Advantages
- Strong performance and graphics power
- Good battery performance
- Useful camera
Disadvantages
- Outdated design
- Modest display
- No 5G or WiFi 6
The Apple iPad 9 proves to be a powerful but unspectacular tablet in the test. We were particularly impressed by its strong performance and graphics power. This also makes more complex mobile games really fun. The battery life is also impressive.
The long-lasting battery lasted over 11 hours in the runtime test. The main camera takes high-quality photos in any light. The display performs rather mediocre but is bright enough.
Apple is sticking to old design decisions with the Apple iPad 9 – instead of a USB port, there is only a Lightning connector. It also lacks 5G and the modern WiFi 6 standard.
