8 Quick Ways to Silence Your Google Pixel Phone

If you've recently switched to a Google Pixel phone from a OnePlus or iPhone, you might be missing the physical switch that puts your phone on silent. Fear not! There are several simple ways to mute your Google Pixel phone without the physical switch. In this article, we will explore different methods to put your Google Pixel phone on silent mode.

Using Volume Buttons

The volume buttons on the side of your Google Pixel phone offer a quick and easy way to mute ringtones and notifications. Simply press the volume up or down button to open the volume slider. Then, tap on the bell icon at the top of the slider to see the sound modes. Tap on the bell icon with a bar to put your Google Pixel on silent mode. You can also press the vibration icon to put your phone in vibration mode.

Using Do Not Disturb

If you want to customize the silent mode on your Pixel phone, the Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is a great option. You can create exceptions for people, conversations, apps, types of notifications, and even schedule DND to activate automatically at a set time. To enable DND, go to Settings > Sound & Vibration > Do Not Disturb. Alternatively, you can access the quick settings panel by swiping down twice from the top edge and tapping on the Do Not Disturb tile.

Using Flip to Shhh

The Flip to Shhh feature is one of the simplest ways to temporarily silence your Pixel phone. When enabled, you just need to flip your phone over and place it on a flat surface to activate Do Not Disturb mode. The mode will remain active as long as your phone's screen is facing down. To enable this feature, go to Settings > System > Gestures > Flip to Shhh and enable the toggle.

Using Prevent Ringing

You can mute your Google Pixel phone or put it in vibration mode by pressing the Power and Volume up buttons together. This feature is known as Prevent Ringing on Pixel phones. To enable it, go to Settings > System > Gestures > Prevent Ringing and enable the toggle. Here, you can choose whether your phone should be put in vibration or mute mode.

Using Quick Tap

On Pixel 4a (5G) and later phones, you can use the Quick Tap feature to instantly mute your phone. Unfortunately, mute isn't a default option for Quick Tap, but you can install a third-party app that will put your Pixel on silent mode when you tap twice on the phone's back. Install the Mute app from the Play Store and follow the instructions to enable the Quick Tap feature.

Using a Widget

Google Pixel phones run on Stock Android, which allows you to add a settings widget to the home screen for quick access to desired settings. You can use this widget to put your Pixel on mute. Touch and hold an empty space on your Pixel's home screen, select Widgets or Add widget, and find the Settings widget. Drag the Settings shortcut widget to the home screen, tap on Sound & Vibration, and decrease the Ring & Notification volume to the lowest level.

Using Rules

You can silence your Google Pixel phone based on location or a specific Wi-Fi network using the Rules feature. To set up a rule, go to Settings > System > Rules and enable the toggle for Always allow location for rules. Then, tap on Add rule, select the action you want the rule to perform (such as setting the phone to silent), and choose the Wi-Fi network or location that will trigger the rule.

Turn off Vibration

If you prefer to disable vibration for incoming calls, go to Settings > Sound & Vibration > Vibration & Haptics > Vibrate for calls and select Never vibrate.
