3 Easy Methods to Share Your Location on Android
Do you need to share your location with a friend or family member? Are you concerned about your safety and want to send your live location to someone? If you're unsure about how to do this, don't worry. In this article, we will show you three easy ways to send your location from your Android phone to anyone, regardless of whether they use Android, iPhone, or even a desktop computer.
1. Google Messages
Google Messages allows you to send your current location or the location of any place to anyone, regardless of whether they use Android or iPhone. However, you cannot send your live location with Google Messages. For that, you can use Google Maps, which we will cover in the next section.
- Open the Google Messages app and select the contact you want to send the location to.
- Tap on the plus icon at the bottom left corner to open the menu.
- Select the Location option.
- Your current location will be highlighted on the next page. Tap on the send icon next to it to send the location. Please note that you are only sending your current location and not your live location.
- If you prefer to send a different location, tap on the search icon at the top right corner, type the location name, and select the location you want to send.
- Tap on the send icon to send the selected location.
If both you and the receiver have enabled RCS, you can also send an encrypted location. Your location will be sent as a link, which they can open in the Google Maps app.
2. WhatsApp
Compared to Google Messages, WhatsApp offers more features and is used by more people worldwide. On WhatsApp, you can share both your current location and your live location. Additionally, the other person can track your live location directly in WhatsApp, eliminating the need to open a separate map application. However, the option to open the link in another map app is still available.
- Open WhatsApp and select the contact you want to send the location to.
- Tap on the paper clip icon in the message box to open the menu.
- Select the Location option.
- To send your current location, tap on the “Send my current location” option.
- To send any other location, tap on the search icon at the top right corner, type the name or address of the location, and select it to instantly send it.
- You can also send your live location for a specific time duration. Tap on the “Share live location” option, select the desired time duration, and tap on the send icon to share it.
- To stop sharing your live location, tap on the “Stop sharing” button.
The person you send the location to can open and check the live location directly in WhatsApp. However, if the location is outside of WhatsApp's capabilities, it will open the link in the default Maps app.
3. Google Maps
While messaging apps allow you to communicate and share locations, Google Maps offers the most comprehensive location-sharing features. You can share any location, including your live location, on Google Maps. Furthermore, you can send a shareable map location link from any messaging service installed on your Android phone.
- Open the Google Maps app and tap on the search bar at the top.
- Search for and select the location you want to send.
- On the location details page, scroll left and tap on the Share button.
- Select the contact you want to share the location with. If it's a phone number, it will share via the SMS app. If it's an email address, it will share via the email app. Once selected, tap on the Send button.
- Alternatively, you can select a messaging app and send the location using it.
- To send your live location, tap on the blue icon representing your current location. In the menu that appears, tap on the Share location option.
- Choose the time duration for which you want to share your location using the plus and minus icons. Select “Until you turn this off” to share your live location indefinitely.
- Select a contact to share the location via the SMS app or the email app. Alternatively, you can select any messaging service installed on your Android phone to share your location.
- Sharing your location using Google Maps will display your name, profile picture, and live location to anyone with the link. If that's what you want, tap on the Share option in the pop-up.
- To customize the time of sharing or to stop sharing your location, open Google Maps, tap on the profile icon, and select Location sharing.
- Tap on the option you used to share your location at the bottom, then tap on “Can see your location” to adjust the time.
- Tap on the Stop button at the bottom right corner to instantly stop sharing your location on Android.
Google Maps also allows you to share location using plus codes, which makes it even easier to let people know where to find you.
In conclusion, there are various ways to share your location from your Android phone. Most messaging services, such as Telegram and Signal, allow location sharing. However, using Google Messages or WhatsApp, along with Google Maps, provides the most flexibility. Choose the method that suits your needs and preferences.
