15 Tips for Editing Pictures and Screenshots in Word Document
If you need to edit a picture in a Word document, you don't have to bother with downloading a third-party photo editor. Microsoft Word provides a powerful built-in photo editor that allows you to perform various editing tasks. You can crop, resize, flip, add effects and filters, remove backgrounds, and even compress pictures right within your Word document. In this article, we will explore 15 tips to help you edit pictures and screenshots in Word.
1. Resize Picture in Word
There are three simple ways to resize images in Word. You can either click on the picture and drag the round icons at the corner edges to resize it. Another option is to double-click on the image to open the Picture Format toolbar and manually enter the desired width and height. Alternatively, you can right-click on the image and select the Size and Position option.
2. Flip the Image
To flip an image in Word, click on it and drag any of the four corner edges to the opposite end. Dragging from right to left or vice versa flips the image horizontally, while dragging from top to bottom or vice versa flips it vertically.
3. Rotate the Image
Rotating an image in Word is easy. Select the image and use the Rotation icon at the top of the image to rotate it in any direction. Alternatively, you can use the Rotation feature in the Picture Format toolbar by double-clicking on the image.
4. Create Copies of a Picture
Instead of using the traditional Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste an image, Word offers a more convenient method. Simply click on the image, hold the Ctrl key, and drag the selected image to the right to create a duplicate copy. Repeat the process to create multiple copies of your picture.
5. Remove Background from a Picture
Microsoft Word provides a native feature to remove the background from your pictures. Insert the picture in your Word document, double-click on it to open the Picture Format menu, click on Remove Background, and mark the areas to keep or remove. Once satisfied with the selection, click on Keep Changes to remove the background from your picture.
6. Add Frame to Picture
To make your picture or screenshot stand out, you can add a frame to it. Double-click on the picture, select the desired frame from the Picture Styles section, or click on the More arrow to view all available frames.
7. Add Effects to Picture
Enhance the look of your picture by adding effects such as shadow, reflection, glow, and more. Double-click on the picture, click on Picture Effects in the Picture Format toolbar, and select the desired effect from the list.
8. Add Border to Picture
If you prefer a simple border for your picture instead of a frame, you can add a regular border. Double-click on the picture, select Picture Border from the Picture Format toolbar, choose the border color and customize the size and style if needed.
9. Change the Color of a Picture
Modify the colors of your picture by selecting the Colors option in the Picture Format toolbar. Choose the preferred color from the list to add a filter or change the overall color tone.
10. Add Artistic Effects to Picture
Add artistic effects like pencil sketch, paint strokes, or paintbrush to your image. Double-click on the picture, select Artistic Effects from the Picture Format toolbar, and choose an effect to apply.
11. Change Brightness, Contrast, and Lighting Conditions
Customize the lighting conditions of your picture by right-clicking on it, selecting Format Picture, and adjusting the available parameters. You can also use the Correction option in the Picture Format toolbar to adjust brightness and contrast.
12. Compress Picture
Reduce the size of your Word document by compressing the pictures in it. Double-click on a picture, click the Compress Picture icon in the Picture Format toolbar, choose the preferred resolution, and select whether to compress the selected picture or all pictures.
13. Change the Transparency of a Picture
To make your image transparent, insert a shape, draw it in your document, right-click on it, select Outline, choose No outline, and then select Fill followed by Picture. With the picture added, right-click on it, select Format Picture, go to the Fill tab, and adjust the transparency using the slider.
14. Reset Changes Made to a Picture
If you're not satisfied with the edited picture, you can easily reset the changes and restore the original image. Double-click on the edited picture, and click on the Reset Picture icon in the Picture Format toolbar.
