Amazon have been the driver and leader in E-readers since they first got involved in e-books and digital content, and today they launched a fresh new step up by announcing the 9th generation Kindle with the larger new waterproof Kindle Oasis E-reader: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XD5YCKX/
This is the first waterproof E-reader from Amazon, and also the first 7-inch E-reader, as mainstream E-readers have always had 6-inch screens or smaller from all the E-reader companies out there, from the Kobo’s to the Nook’s.
The waterproof rating is high too at IPX8, which compared, is higher than the 6-7 rating on the few waterproof tablet computers that are on the market.
And at 6.8 oz / 194 grams it is still light, and still lighter than the Kindle Paperwhite, which weighs 7.2 oz / 205 grams. The weight balance is also centred towards the palm of the hand, which makes it feel even lighter than if it were a tablet, which has evenly distributed weight towards all 4 corners instead.
The new Kindle also supports Amazon’s Audible for those who wants to listen instead of reading. The screen is glare free though.
Connectivity for downloading content is great with free 4G LTE, as well as 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a micro-USB 2.0 port.
Battery life is long, with a 42 hour battery life, or 6 weeks of battery life if used 30 minutes a day says Amazon. Charging it is also very fast, at 2 hours with a 5W charger.
I just wish Amazon had launched the Kindle Oasis before the summer holiday and not right after, but I suppose I can try it out in the tub too now.
