Amazon, the company that popularized the e-reader launched the 11th generation Kindle today. This is the entry level e-reader with a price of $99, but it has seen some upgrades over the predecessors:
It starts taking pre-orders today and will launch and ship to buyers on October 12.
Since this is a dedicated e-reader and not a tablet, it has a 6-inch glare free display with 16-level gray scale display sporting a higher 300 ppi resolution than the predecessor, and now features a USB C port for transfers and charge, an optional denim blue color option, 16GB storage (+ free cloud storage for the Amazon content), adjustable front light, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
It support the file formats Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PMP, EPUB, TXT, RTF through conversion; and Audible audio format (AAX) if you want to or have to listen instead of reading.
The new Kindle has a 6 week / 100 hour battery life. Charging time is 2 hours with a 9W Kindle charger, or twice that if you use with a USB C cable through your computer. Turning the Wi-Fi off when you are just planning to finish a book will also help reserve battery.
Some of the main features includes access to millions of titles, built in dictionary, the X-Ray feature with details about people/places in the e-book, VoiceView screen reader let users switch to listening instead of reading, and some of the new fabric covers for Kindle that are launching in Black, Rose, Denim, and Dark Emerald.
Users have a lot of control over the text and can swap between different reading modes, make the black letters on a white background appear as white letters on a black background and so on, for those unfamiliar with all the many settings of a modern Kindle.
This new 2022 Kindle is also available as Kindle Kids with additional parental controls, and of course free kids content, settings, and services, with a two-year worry-free guarantee and one year of Amazon Kids+, as well as a choice of Kids covers with the thees Space Whale, Unicorn Valley, and Ocean Explorer.
As a 6-inch e-reader it is very light, and weighs less than most smartphones, at just 158 grams! Even the new 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro weighs 206 grams. The thickness is 8mm, which is deliberate to make it as comfortable to hold as possible.
