Microsoft Upgrades Excel for iPad with Pivot Table Support
Microsoft has announced an important upgrade to its Excel spreadsheet app for iPads. The latest version now allows users to create and edit PivotTables directly on their iPad.
PivotTables are powerful tools for calculating, summarizing, and analyzing spreadsheet data. They help spot comparisons, patterns, and trends across large datasets.
Until now, iPad users had to rely on Excel for PC or Office on the web to build PivotTables.
With this update, Microsoft aims to provide a consistent Excel experience across desktop, web, and mobile. Users can seamlessly switch between platforms without losing functionality.
To create a PivotTable on iPad, go to the Insert tab and tap PivotTable. Select the data source and where to insert it. The PivotTable will be added with one tap.
The intuitive touch interface makes it simple to customize the view. Drag and drop fields to rearrange the layout using the Field List. See different summaries of the data instantly.
Easily change the PivotTable's source data anytime. Just open the Change Data Source pane. This ensures your analysis stays up-to-date as the data changes.
Fine-tune the PivotTable settings through the Settings pane. Make tweaks and save changes with one tap. Get the view dialed in exactly how you want.
PivotTables can also be moved around or between worksheets by cut/paste. The context menu handles this with a couple of taps.
Microsoft claims PivotTable handling on iPad is now on par with Excel for desktop. This enables true cross-platform flexibility. Users can start projects on PC, continue on the web, and polish on iPad.
The PivotTable feature is available in Excel for iPad version 2.80.1203.0 and above. It will roll out slowly, so update to the latest release ASAP.
(To check your current Excel version on iPad, go to Settings > Excel > About Excel. The version number is displayed at the top.)
Microsoft welcomes user feedback on the new functionality. Select Help & Feedback in Settings and choose “Tell Us What You Like” or “Tell Us What Can Be Better.” Input from users will help refine the feature going forward.
PivotTable support significantly expands Excel for iPad's capabilities. Users gain quicker, easier data analysis on the go. This allows better insights from their spreadsheet data anytime, anywhere.
