Asus announced the new Windows 10 2-in-1 tablet Asus Transformer 3 Pro (T303UA) at COMPUTEX 2016 in Taiwan today, with their top of the range Microsoft Surface alternative.
Asus Transformer 3 Pro (T303UA) is a Intel Core “Skylake” powered 12.6-inch tablet with 2880 x 1920 resolution, 16GB RAM, 128GB to 1TB of storage, and choice of Windows 10 Pro or Home edition. It will be launched from $999.
The Transformer 3 Pro is an interesting alternative to Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book, with a lot of the same hardware power. But at the same time, it is not any cheaper than a Surface.
So let’s examine all the specs in detail. There are two Asus Transformer 3 Pro models. The one starting at $999 has an Intel Core i5 6200U processor, while the flagship model has an Intel Core i7 6500U processor. Both models have integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 GPU. But, this tablet can be built upon, by connecting a ROG XG Station 2 for gaming-powerful graphics handling.
Transformer 3 Pro tablets have the option 16GB LPDDR3 RAM (2133MHz SDRAM) so that’s phenomenal and still very rare on tablets, even Windows 10 tablets, but the cheapest model begins with 8GB of RAM.
The unique 12.6-inch screen has a WQHD+ display with 2880 x 1920 resolution (275ppi pixel density) and 3:2 aspect ratio, with 85% NTSC and 121% sRGB. The screen also has blue-light reduction technology.
There are four high storage options, these being 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB of PCIE Gen3X4 SSD storage. But the tablet also has a microSD card reader for storage expansion.
Internet connectivity is naturally complete with dual-band a/b/g/n/ac with WIDI support, and Bluetooth 4.1.
Transformer 3 Pro has USB 3.1 Type-C port, USB 3.0 port, HDMI port, a Thunderbolt port, and audio combo jack.
The cameras are of high resolution, with a 8MP front IR camera to be used fro anything from face recognition to video chats, and a 13MP rear camera.
The tablet speakers on this tablet are also good with 2 watt speakers by Harmon Kardon, in addition to array microphone, and Windows 10 Cortana with Voice support.
It has a 39 Whrs polymer battery with a 9 hour battery life.
The tablet itself is wrapped by aluminum-magnesium alloy, making it 8.35 mm thick and weighing 795 grams. So it should be more durable than plastic tablets. The tablet color options are called Icicle Gold and high-tech Titanium Gray, and along with similar colored keyboards, there are also 4 additional keyboard colors to chose from. The built-in kickstand has a stepless 155 degree positioning.
The Surface-like keyboard, is backlit and has 1.4mm travel distance. And like most Asus tablets these days, the Asus Transformer 3 Pro has support for the Asus Pen with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. With the Asus Transformer 3 Pro, both the keyboard and the Asus Active Pen in included in the price.
The actual availability of this interesting tablet will be announced later, but Asus is indicating a summer launch within Q3.
