While it had been rumored for some time that Razer is working on a new mobile gaming device of sorts, whether it’s a phone or tablet, no leaks had suggested anything.
But recently we got a confirmation instead from none other than Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan who told CNBC before the weekend that Razer is working on a mobile device geared towards gamers and entertainment, that they hope to launch at the end of 2017.
The last gaming tablet from Razer was the Edge and Edge Pro, two 10.1-inch Intel Core powered Windows gaming tablets. So that says something about the standards that Razer sets, when they have previously put Intel Core i5 and i7 processor into 10-inch tablets. It came with optional keyboard, gaming console, and home console.
The best known gaming tablet since the Razer Edge has been the Nvidia Shield Tablet, a smaller 8-inch Android tablet.
But that’s not to say that the next 2017 mobile gaming device from Razer is a tablet, as it is more likely to be a Android phablet.
Razer already owns a phone company, after it bought Nextbit at the start of this year. But whatever device it is, Min-Liang Tan was testing a prototype just the other day.
Moment of intense panic when I dropped a prototype into the side of the armrest when the plane was landing. I thought I was fucked.
