An upgrade of the 3rd generation The New iPad (9.7-inch) in October is expected to coincide with the release of iOS 6.
The changes on the iPad are presumed to be small, but would involve an even newer screen technology to save energy consumption and increase battery life, a new battery pack which with increased power and reduced weight, and a changed placement of the camera.
It is expected that the $399 iPad 2 will go out of production in October, and that the brand new $299 7.85-inch iPad Mini will replace the iPad 2 as an entry level iPad.
Apple discontinued the 32GB and 64GB models of iPad 2 on March 7, and have only produced the 16GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi and 16GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G ($529) since then.
The upgraded “The New iPad,” and the new iPad Mini, is rumored to be unveiled and presented all on Tuesday, October 23.
