HP 7 Plus G2-1331 With 200MB Monthly Data Plan Launch Mid-November

We first got a whiff of the HP 7 Plus G2-1331 back in September, but now it’s taking orders ahead of release in the middle of November. The price is $179 at launch time:

The good thing is is that you get HP’s data plan included, which includes 200MB free 4G data for the life of the device, similar to the free service included with the HP Stream 8, also at $179.

The bad things is everything else about this tablet, because the specs are really lousy for a $179 worth 7-inch Android tablet in Q4 2014. HP 7 Plus G2-1331 is a 7-inch Android 4.4 tablet with a dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor, 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 8GB storage, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, 4G HSPA+ from T-Mobile, and Bluetooth 4.0.

It has two cameras, with a 0.3MP front camera and a 2MP rear camera. The battery life is a measly 6 hours short, while the weight of this tablet is 286 gram.

HP 7 Plus G2-1331 is essentially a $99 tablet sold with an extreme overprice. For $179 you can get Full HD tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 these days. You can even get 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablets for less than that nowadays.

The name of the HP 7 Plus G2-1331 makes it easy to confuse it with two other similarly sounding tablets, such as the HP 7 Plus and HP 7 G2. But they are all very similar tablets anyway.
