Galaxy Tab 3 Lite Expected In January 2014

In addition to the upcoming Samsung tablets with AMOLED display that we reported on yesterday, Samsung is now also rumored to have a light version of their Galaxy Tab 3 tablet in the works.

(UPDATED: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite was officially confirmed on January 16, 2014.)

The official debut of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (SM-T11) is expected to take place already in January 2014, so we don’t have to wait long to see what all the fuzz is about.

None of the technical specs have been leaked yet, but we can expect this Android tablet to carry specs that are somewhat similar to a Galaxy Tab 2 and 3 combined, with the cheapest parts from both. Because what will be “lite” about Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is the price, and not the actual weight.

The source of the leak suggest that it will cost around 100 Euros or 99 US Dollars, which means that Samsung has made a tablet to fill a gap in their own lineup, which is the ultra cheap/sub-$100 budget tablet category.

This is a strategy that is similar to Samsung Electronics smartphone strategy, so we can expect more of Samsung’s competitors to follow suit too, in addition to those tablet manufacturers that are already in the budget tablet game, such as HP and Lenovo.

Prices on the cheapest Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tablets the last couple of weeks have been between $149 and $159, and looks set to stay like that in the run up to Christmas, so prices are not that bad from before. And these prices are pretty much the same internationally.

Samsung is hungry, and they are not going to let other tablet brands take away their market shares easily in 2014.
