It looks like the rumors of an 8-inch Amazon Fire tablet were true, as I’ve noticed an 8-inch Amazon Fire tablet have just been benhcmarked on GFXbench.

(UPDATED: Fire HD 8 was unveiled on September 17, and will be released on September 30.)

Based on the benchmarked specifications, this 8-inch Android tablet also looks like more of a budget tablet than the typical high-end HDX tablets that Amazon is offering at the moment.

The 8-inch Amazon Fire HD 8 (?) with the codename KFMEWI runs Android 5.1, is powered by a quad-core 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT8135 processor, a Imagination Technologies PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU, has 1GB of RAM, and perhaps 16GB of storage.

The resolution of the 8-inch screen is 1280 x 800, while the Fire HD 8 also has a 0.9MP front camera, a 5.1MP rear camera with flash, as well as accelerometer, gyroscope, pedometer, and of course Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology.

This will be the first 8-inch tablet from Amazon, as the other 8-inchers from Amazon have been 8.9-inch large

An announcement of the new Amazon tablet line for 2015 to 2016 looks pretty close now. It will be exciting to see if Amazon will expand their lineup or if they will remove some outgoing models. The powerful HDX 8.9 model has been on sale for two weeks now, so something is about to happen.

Other new Fire tablets benchmarked include the “$50” cheap 7-inch Fire tablet and the 10-inch Amazon Fire tablet. A fourth new tablet is also expected from Amazon, and this too is another first from Amazon, with the 12-inch Amazon Fire tablet.
